Hi there,

I’m looking for help/advice on how to utilise an Electric Power steering Rack from a Civic EP3 in a custom install, without the main Honda ECU etc.

I need a way of replicating the signals which are fed from the main ECU to the Power Steering ECU.

I’m more than capable of mechanical issues, such as fitting sensors etc, what I need is some way of replicating the signals correctly.

This will possibly include information on the Pin-out of both the main ECU,and the PS ECU.

I’ve seen someone has created a little ‘box of tricks’ to use with Vauxhall’s Corsa Electric column assists, but I need to use the EP3 rack.

Questions I have:

Is the signal from the VSS/RPM sensor to the Main ECU the same as what is fed to the PS ECU, as I can simply send his direct.

If not, is there a way of replicating these signals with simple electronics?

Not pretending to be an expert in the subject by any means, but some things come to mind. The first being, KISS. I believe a manufacturer (especially one as seasoned as Honda) would not modify or create something just for the sake of doing so. Having said that, I think that the VSS signal should come from the sensors to the ABS module, then from the module to the ECU (or dash). The best way to figure that out would be to obtain a wiring diagram for the electric assist vehicle.

I wonder why you need the RPM signal? In my process to installing the MR2 electric steering system in my own car, I've found the only signals it really needs are battery voltage, VSS, and steering angle. The toyota system uses the steering angle to determine whether it should be in high pump or low pump mode.
