just had a thought.

Perhaps we could start an IRC channel to help speed things up.
The board is great, but the speed of communication in real time has many obvious developmental advantages

Perhaps we can look at starting a channel on /EFNet called #pgmfi ?

what do people think about this idea?

How does one register such a channel on an IRC server?
ive got no idea

EFNET doesnt do channel reg unless its changed since I lurked.

EFnet sucks, I can never get a server to acknowledge my existance, DALnet has been pretty much destroyed by script kiddies for the last two weeks, and you have to let someone have sex with your sister (sorry to be crass) to get a channel registered on Undernet.

That pretty much wipes out the major networks. We can go small network if anyone wants... I know the kids who run irc.liquidspaghetti.com/irc.w30wnzj00.com (same network, diff servers) and it's pretty reliable, you can register channels, open to the public, etc.

I'll be either spawning a second mIRC or looking into a different client if you guys aren't all about DAL or Under, which are the two I idle on.

Heh. I'd love to pester a few of you guys for info at odd hours.

Fine, I will. I've been idling on the EF #pgmfi and two people havce come in in the last 24 hours... ffft. Slackers.

#pgmfi on irc.liquidspaghetti.com or irc.w30wnzj00.com. I'll be idling most of the time, have the chan regged, and I have pet IRCops there with connections to Hybrid board members, no less.

To save you guys the hassles of dealing with those other networks, efnet, dalnet, undernet... I just registered #pgmfi on irc.openprojects.net this really a nice irc network and doesn't have the problems (script kiddies, dos attacks, etc) that the unmoderated networks have. It's also used by a TON of programmers for development work. Anyway, it's set up if anyone wants to use it. irc.openprojects.net #pgmfi

i cant seem to log onto the irc network do i need software for this im sort of a pc dummy

Get mIRC. If you want the channel I'm idling in, enter "/server irc.liquidspaghetti.com" at the command line. Once connected type "/join #pgmfi"

mIRC gives you the ability (with recent versions) to be on two IRC servers at the same time, so if you want on the other guy's network type "/server -m irc.openprojects.net" and then join #pgmfi.

I was sorta partial to liquidspaghetti/0wnz because it is also a small hassle-free network, and I know a few of the IRCops... one of them is childhood friends with a guy on Hybrid, small world.
