Won't )(#$(*#$ open.

*sighs*

Now WTF do I do now? Everything was working perfectly. Uninstalled everything and reinstalled. I've re-regsitered all the OCX files. And now I'm stuck.

*sighs*

Any other suggestions?

so you downloaded logworks.dll and installed it thru the plugins manager in TE? not sure why that would screw things up...

try this:
1. unload all the plugins in TE
2. restart TE
3. load extra tables (the dll file) thru the plugin manager
4. make sure it works
5. restart TE
6. load ecucontrol.dll thru the plugin manager
7. restart TE
8. try to start ecucontrol

if it still wont start up, then unzip the attached vbs file to any folder or desktop and run it (double click). after a few seconds it should create a .txt file in the same folder that shows all of the registered files on your computer. post that file back up so that I can make sure that things are registered correctly.

can also try a system restore if necessary...

PS, if you want to log with logworks...I have a much better standalone software for doing that.

Joe-

I was up LATE last night. Ugh . . . Everything is working correctly now, but I couldn't tell you exactly what I did to get things working.

I would get to the point of registering ecucontrol.dll, and it would NOT come up when clicking on the listing for plugins. Everything seemed to be FINE, EC just would NOT pull up.

Right now, aside from last night, I have two other people at the same point. Both are using XP, both have installed everything exactly as the steps you've provided show, and EC just does not come up.

I got to the point last night where I was desperate enough to start messing with the system registry. I went through and deleted EVERYTHING related to TE, ECUControl, Logworks (This all started when I tried to install logworks and the logworks plugin), and extratables. I went through the whole computer and deleted everything that was related to TE in any way shape or form, restarted several times to make sure I didn't booger up the registry too badly, then went through the installation steps again. Still no dice. So, I installed the logworks plugin and Logworks3, then WTF . . . Everything started working again.

I have no idea why. Here is what I get when I run your script:

I am VERY interested in ANYTHING that will work more consistently than EC right now. This is just getting to be so frustrating, as there are cars that need to be tuned, and up to this point, it hasn't been this difficult.

Thank you for your help and support, man. I don't want to imply anything negative to you. I am REALLY grateful to be able to still be tuning OBD0 ECUs with TE. I love TE, and when EC works, it's great! I just wanted to make sure I get that across. I sound too whiney. LOL!

Point taken. most of the issues with ecucontrol seem to stem from adding support for the serial logging of innovate channels (and regional settings for people outside the US).

Most of the time when this happens, the eChartControl.ocx file is not registered or is registered but missing. I attempted to test for all the required files when ecucontrol starts up...but it didn't seem to work with that file. Both TE and ecucontrol should have simple startup log files.

If you are gonna tune guys with logworks capabilities, does something like this interest you?

http://www.d-series.org/forums/engine-management/147429-anyone-using-logworks-3-0-a.html#post2313752

The other software that I'm working on is coming...I will email you some screenshots, and maybe ask for some suggestions.

To use the Logworks program, I would have to use a 3.5mm to DB-9 to USB setup, right? That's not going to work for the guys in oddball parts of the world I work with. I just need EC to work without any headaches. No one I tune with uses the serial logging stuff. It's all just feeding the wideband to the stock O2 sensor line and using one USB to serial adapter and that's it. It works, or, it used to work.

I just need something simple that works without anything extra. I need to log everything as simply as possible. I don't need extra hardware to get in the way of tuning cars, especially when it is NOT available in places (Like Slovakia, Romania, Russia, and Brunei), or it takes months to get something imported.

*shrugs* I only know of two people who bother messing with the serial crap. (You and Justin.)

I'm very curious as to what you've got cooking up. VERY.

The innovate products come with a program cable (2.5mm to DB-9). I just use a simple DB-9 to USB adapter (available for cheap anywhere in the US) and pull in up to 8 (or more) extra channels of data (AFR, EGT, ect.) directly into ecucontrol (or send the ecu data to logworks). No grounding issues, no extra wiring, no finding power sources, no ecu modifications...just need 2 usb (or serial) ports. Actually I plug the innovate chain into my laptop and use a hub to connect the ecu and emulator to my second usb port...pull 2 cables from under the floor mat and your ready to tune.

I used to use the analog out channel thru C16 and was constantly checking to make sure that the values were correct...now I just have it going to a simple gauge.

I'm 100% with you on keeping it simple, ecucontrol got a little carried away on my end trying to add support for things that I thought were useful and what others wanted...especially since the base program was written by synoptic not myself. That and being a rookie on the software development side, proper error handling went by the wayside...and thats really something that should have been more important. This was all developed with vb6, which has been losing interest and support for years now. The new software is being developed with .net (2010), so we shouldn't have all the resource file garbage happening once finished.

I bought my LC-1 used. It never came with the adapter. I have one, don't know if it works yet. I hope to not have to find out.

A hub is a good idea. Duh. I forgot about that.

It's just that I can't use logworks for the guys who don't have the right stuff.

I have my Ostrich, Hulog and DB9 adapter going into a hub and a single cord going to my laptop. I plug one cable in and I am ready to go. I paid less than $5 dollars on ebay for my db9 adapter. I'm sure your customers can spring for one of those.

The direct connect with an lc-1 is priceless imo even in Ecucontrol. No more offsets.

Joe- check you email man!!! :D

It's not always a matter of affordability, it's importing stuff. That's a problem. A real problem.

I'll have to suck it up and try this out. But, for now, I'm sticking with old skool stuff to get some work done! LOL!

I run a hub as well - single USB line that comes out from under the carpet...one port for a USB-serial adapter to the ECU, one port for the wideband and one port for the Ostrich...I have not had an issue since I got it up and running.

I'm just scared of serial stuff. I've never been able to get anything working before. (Mostly because I'm a 'tard. Mostly.)

I am glad there are options. I am just going to try to suck it up and deal with them. I've got to try a USB to serial adapter anyway since I have to check the firmware and settings on my LC-1. Time to GSD. (Get Stuff Done.)

I didn`t think about a hub! That`s an excellent idea....although I am a little skeptical about it.I had 2 hard drives once and a printer on a hub and whenever I was printing something the hard drives where shutting down. How do you connect the usb hub?Through an extension cable to the laptop? That might be a problem as well as some long extension cables don`t hold the proper voltage that usb connections need.I guess I`ll try it tomorrow with a small hub and see if it works.

No more 3 cables going to 3 separate usb ports!
