Here is the deal:
I can connect to the ecu and upload the map from Turboedit. Datalogging is working. The problem is that when I connect to the ecu and the map is uploaded, it says it was successful and I can begin making changes to the Rom.

At this point, the CEL is still solid after the upload. If I cycle the ignition, the CEL goes away and the car starts up normally; however, I I try to make any changes, I get the "bit write error 0x3F". Turboedit says that it is still connected (at the bottom of the window). No changes are successful in being uploaded in real time.

What I have to do is:
Make a change, save the bin, close TE and reopen TE / file, then upload. then cycle ignition, datalog, and start the whole mess over again. If I try to reconnect and resend without closing and reopening TE, I get an error message stating no com ports are available.

Is this common for the Romulator, or is the Romulator not supported? All settings are correct, bit rate, com port, the whole 9 yards. This same Romulator works fine with Crome and Hondata. I have tried all tricks and suggestions found on the boards here, but most of them are YEARS old.

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

with the romulator do you have to have the ignition on to upload the rom (even with crome and hondata)? did this work correctly for you in the earlier versions of TE?

i did change a few things trying to get this to work correctly, but apparently failed! does the get rom function work for you? i will check the code changes i made and see if i screwed up somewhere...

i used this as a reference for the romulator...as i dont have one to test with. http://wiki.xtronics.com/index.php/Romulator

*edit... apparently the 0x3F is stating that the romulator is getting an unknown command. does it write that line twice each time you change a cell value. the format for writing to the romulator and the ostrich is exactly the same...i changed it to use the same function for each of them. why it works for the ostrich and not the romulator seems weird... what version romulator do you have...it shows version 1.9 and up starting with an X (57h must be a typo...should be 58h) character to start the serial command but says a W (57h) works for all versions.

With Hondata and Crome, the ignition must be in the on position in order to upload files to the Romulator. That is just the design of the Romulator, the power from the pin(s) is what turns the Romulator on.

Honestly, I haven't tried an earlier version of TE. Today was our first attempt with using TE to tune the motor. I did not try the get Rom function either.
The only way I was able to do a half way "real time" was by using the Moates.net utility, but I still had to switch over to that program and hit upload again, after making changes and saving the rom in TE.

If you are able to write some code that would make it work, I can supply you with an extra Romulator that I have.
Unfortunately, the car is 80 miles away, so I won't be able to make and changes and report back for at least a few weeks.

if you run across an extra romulator that you could send me for testing (i would return it afterward of course) that would make things much easier on my end. in the mean time i will try contacting xtronics to see if they have any insight. i believe the serial commands im sending are correct, im just not sure why its sending back a '?' instead of an 'O' after writing a byte. it seems to be working fine for the bulk upload on connecting to the romulator...just not after that. i'll get it fixed soon and post 3.2.2...
