i dont have vista so i cant really help. but if 2.6 works, then 3.8 should work.

are you saying that the installer file (the .vbs file) wont run? all that is doing is setting up a folder structure and updating/adding files if they dont exist.

set it up as shown in the attachment...and let me know if that works.

OK i set it up like that, and when i try to run turboedit it says:

Run-time error '339':

Component 'MSComm32.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid

It said the same thing when i tried to use the datalogger with v 2.6, only with tabctl32.ocx.

if you installed turboedit or ecucontrol, you should have those files.

f not download mscomm32.ocx and tabctl32.ocx (yahoo search xxx.ocx download) and put it in the folder that i posted before...same folder as turboedit.exe. also put a copy of tabctl32 in with the ecucontrol.dll file and try it again.

or just put them in the system32 folder... im not sure if its still the system32 folder in vista or not, so you might just want to put a copy in the same folder as the application.

Well i tried that, no luck.

I guess vista doesn't use mscomm32.ocx, but i did download it and turboedit still isn't recognizing it.

thanks for all the help so far.

Does anyone run turboedit on vista??

try registering mscomm32.ocx if you havent (regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\MSCOMM32.OCX)...or use quotes if you have a path with spaces in it.

look up directions for doing it in vista (i read something about having to run as administrator)...

i just read about people having issues with mscomm32 control, but i will have to do more research into a solution.

*edit:

Note: Users may need to be logged in as a Local Administrator to register files.

Windows Vista:
Click Start, Run.
Enter cmd in the search line.
At the command prompt, enter:
REGSVR32 "PATH TO THE DLL FILE"
Be sure to include the quotation marks if the path contains any spaces.
Click OK.
Note: If the UAC is turned off, this is not necessary. You can register the DLL straight from the Run/search line.

I tried this, I am an admin btw. I get this phrase from windows when i try to register it:

The module "c:\windows\system32\MScomm32/ocx" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x8002801c.

*Ok i disabled UAC and it worked. Now when i try to run turbo edit i get the same 399 error but wtih MDITaskBarControl.ocx

you may have to register all of them... there are only a handful of control used, so you may have to just go down the list as they come up.

give it a try and let us know if it worked...

Run-time error '5':

download the newest version and forget about it... i tried adding code for updates and some people were having problems with it...so in 3.1.9, i made it so that you could turn on/off the auto check for update.

please post if it works or not...

It works! When i first opened turboedit no maps would show, just needed to download and register 1 more .ocx file.

I'll let you know if I can't get anything else to work

Thanks for the help I really appreciate it.
