Here is a quick run thru on how to erase and program your SST 27SF512 with the Willem Programmer this should also work with AT29C512 with some minor changes. This is just the basics but will get you going. Pics are worth a million words in my case so there listed below (Hopefully)

1. you need to have the programmer hooked up to you PC and the drivers loaded. If you've made it this far your on the right track.

2. Set your DIP switch and insert your chip (SST27SF512) make sure the chip pin 14 & 15 are in the 2 bottom slots with the middle divit towards the lever.

3. Click the erase icon (has the rom with a pencil eraser) If it is unable to erase make sure you have the jumper set up as shown below.

4. Load your bin your ready to program.

5. Remove the jumper (shown below)

6. Goto the bottom Right of the Willem box and you will see Offset(Hex) and will be defaulted to 0. Change this to 8000.

7. Click on the program icon which is the complete rom picture. It will bring a pop up which will ask if want to use this off set, click yes.

8. It will program and verify. If both show 100% your good to go. Replace the little jumper you removed (so you don't lose it)

9. Put the Rom into your ECU

10. Turn on ignition and wait for the main relay to click off, CEL should turn off. If this is the case you have programmed it correctly.

I can read this chip but when i try to open it using BRE or turboedit it says its not a compatable bin. Any ideas? Does it need to be powered from the 12v imput or just the usb. I have no problems with the amtel 29c256. Just these.

If you can't open the ROM you've just read its either a problem with BRE/turboedit (I personally can't find any bins to open with turboedit and never used BRE) or it may be a 64kb file instead of the normal 32kb, Which means someone used winhex and copy/pasted to 0000 and again to 8000 offsets, this is done on 512kb or larger chips . Just read the offset starting at 8000 and save it, or download winhex and start at 8000 and goto FFFF and copy and paste data into a 256kb file in winhex

thanks for the tips, I now can erase the chips (27SF512);
however trying to program I always get the error message, 'error at 0x0000000 chip=0xff buffer=0x02'.
(I always erase the chip before trying to program it).

this is a shot of the Willem I have
Image

from reading the manual I suspect it must be a voltage (Vpp) regulation but I haven't found how to adjust it to 12.75V.

The only times I've experienced that problem was bad EPROMS. Try another one with the same setting and you should be fine.

Does the SST 27SF512 chip normally work with the Willem?

I have been working on getting these chips to work with my willems enhanced burner for quite awhile, if anyone is using the enhanced could you snap a pic of the layout of you're board please, I dont understand how the jumpers work on this board since there are 3 single rows of jumpers not side by side so there's really no way to jump them. I've used 29c256's forever with no problems but these 27sf512's are kicking my ass.

i have burned this with no problems

i will post a picture later
but things to make them work.
-burn with offset of 8000
-make sure setting its on PCB and not WILLEM
-erase the chip before burning (erasing requires different jumpers)

somthing i found out .

i have the newer willem (with no jumpers) and i hate sst27's there so inconsistant . but i found the way to make them erase every time .

short out pins 22 and 24 , you dont have to do anything else but hit erase. doesnt matter what mode .

i guess the problem lies in the software jumping the pins for you . it just doesnt do it all the time . shorting the pinshas worked 100% of the time

oh and burning was never mine issue just to clear it up , it was erasing
