I have never chipped an ECU before but am very experienced with soddering and electronics. I just installed 3 chips for some friends and 2 of the 3 are going into limp mode. One, an OBD1 P72 went into limp mode so I cut J1 and it did nothing, still the same. Then I removed everything I did and its still the same(rev to 4k rpm, solid CEL). The chip is some cheap chip my buddy got a while ago and cant remember who he got it from. My question is did i toast the ECU, could the chip have done it or is it even junk??

The other, a P28 is doing the same thing, cut J1 ...no difference checked EVERY sodder point and they are good. WHAT NEXT??????

thank you for any info and help.

if you cut J1 and it's the same, it's unlikely that it's the chip's fault.

what did you do exactly? (follow instructions?)
any problems while doing it? (even a small one may lead us to the right area)

Yes my buddy printed out some instructions from this site with a picture. Everything went well, I did get confused with the R54 and did some reading and found out what the problem was. Im going now to resodder the p28 and see what happens. Is it possible that a bad sodder job could destroy the ECU even if I removed everything?

Thanks again
