ok i have been doing lots reading in the library section about remaping and i want to know if i am right or wrong or close here it goes
i think you have to burn a base map to the a blank chip put it in to a socketed ecu and then you can use the cars diagnostic socket to connect it to a laptop using ECUControl or something similar to adjust the fuel and ignition maps. i am very new to this i think i might be wrong there's lot's of info it's easy to get confused lol

You need a chip or emulator in the ecu that is programmed with the external rom you're looking to run. You'll datalog through the ecu to see what the engine is doing, then make changes to the rom and put them in the ecu and repeat.

my plans are for crx or civic eg not sure yet i want to run skunk2 stage2 cams aftermarket valves and spring Retainers port & polish ITB'S and not sure for bottem end maybe b16b pistons must point out im no expert lol

I don't really care about that stuff, more the ecu end of things. It will depend on what ecu/software/hardware you go with, but the general premise is the same as what I said in other post.
