Hi guys.

I've been reading PGMFI.ORG forum since some time, but time to ask first question has come...
This is my first post, so please forgive lack of my knowledge.

I've found lots of very interesting info here, which allowed me to replace my stock OBD2 to OBD1 ECU (B18C4 engine), I've tuned AFR and want more... One thing stops my progress in my "tuning" attempts - Real Time Programming. Removing, reprogramming and placing EEPROM in socket each time I want to change any parameter is very annoying.

I've searched over whole forum and found only two methods of RTP:
1. using rom-emulator (as Ostrich, ROMulator or sth)
2. using Easy RTP 1.0 by Blundar

2nd option requires cutting off some PCB tracks and soldering new wires. I wish to leave my ECU as stock (expecting addition of external eeprom and datalogging support) as it is possible.

I want to build my own rom-emulator (instead of using Ostrich or ROMulator) which will cooperate with Crome RTP capabilities. AFAIK Crome supports three communication protocols: "OBD1 PGMFI RTP", "Xenocron ROMemulator", "Moates Ostrich". Is any official/onofficial specification of any of those protocols available? I want to make my emulator compatible with crome in most convinient way. I want to upload map to ECU (via USB or RS232) immediately after modification of it in Crome. I'm asking because I didn't found any similar project on this forum and escape from time consuming transmission analysis.

Additionally please give me any directions to search for what, if U think that my idea is weird.

The Moates.net Ostrich protocol specifications are available on their website.

Thanks!

I've found so far only information that Ostrich/APU1/BURN1 uses the same protocol as TunerPRO RT and FlashBURN. Is it right?
I can't find any description of transmission protocol on Moates.net website.

OK, I've got what I need :)
Everything is available here:
http://wiki.xtronics.com/index.php/Romu ... r_protocol

I hope it will be enough...

If anyone is interested:
I did prototype of Xtronics ROMulator compatible device, It supports complete protocol of ROMulator and works with Xtronics control program, CROME and should work with tuning tools for other cars too.

Actualy it emulates up too 32kB EEPROM.

Device is a complicated more than it should be, but everything works as I expected... ;)

Cost of device on Poland is about 30$, but it requires some soldering skills to assembly it.

So if anyone needs info, I'll help for sure.

OK, for those brave souls, who want to test it, here are some basic information:
- in schematic and PCB layout ugly bug is present - OE of U6 have to be cut and OE signal from socket should be wired to OE of U6.

There's a block diagram schematic on the link posted.

I am going to attempt to build this rtp.

Wish me luck.

hi,

i also tried to make this rtp. there are some obstacles i ran into. there is no clear diagram on how to connect the rtp to dill 28. i am not sure the firmware on the link is usable. i was goin to make this using all smd parts.

The rtp is cannot running online or auto update. It give MIL and poping engine every time you make adjustment. Since the design using single line memory. The ecu lost the data to read while crome update write to memory.

i think this device was not intended to adjust the rom real time. It seems that after you made runs and capture some data logs. you are suppose to pull over and do the adjustments while the engine is turned off. The author was selling some blank boards a while ago for 80usd i saw at some other forum. from the youtube he posted it was able to update in real time, maybe it was a already a diffrent updated version.

how are you able to figure out where the zif pins would go ?
