Before I had problems with CEL http://forum.pgmfi.org/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=15309&p=97607#p97607 not going off but after a lot of messing around here's what happen:

First, I connect the ostrich up to labtop and into the ecu. Load up my bin, turn the key on; then cel is on, turn key off. Next, unplug the usb from the labtop, then wait a few seconds, and turn the key on and the CEL is off. Then, I replug the usb, and I have to close crome, and reopen it; then vertify that i'm connected, then get data. From there on I can tune with no check engine light.
Is it ok to follow these steps before I tune? Have anyone heard about that problem before? It's really wierd I found that out on accident. I was moving the ribbon cable around while the engine was running and the car made a few hiccups, when I mess with the ribbon cable aggressive enough, it throws the car in limp mode. Is that normal? so i guess im not suppose to touch the ostrich or ribbon cable or slightly as possible while engine is running or getting tuned? So therefore, is it best that I run the ecu off a chip after the tune since its more reliable?

When i'm making some changes, the car hesitates (is this called a hiccup?) if the changes are small then the engine barely hesitates. This is normal too i suppose, or not?

I had to retard my timing really low to get rid of the pinging i'm hearing part throttle and more. What effect will too low of timing have on the engine other then reduce performance? Could it damage the motor by running too low of a timing? overheat?

I also couldn't get my freelog to work right, the values im getting in there is not accurate, plus im not getting rpm values. Some of the values do move when I varie my rpms. I have j12 cut, and i'm using the xenoncrom cable that has 3 wires. Anyone have pics/diagram of where the wires connect to the tx rx, ground? thanks
