I keep getting a lot of comments on my screen saver when people pop into the shop so I thought I would share. Seems it glues people once they notice it...

Anyone tell me what motor this is?

Cool, looks like someone has some mad AutoCad skills! Looks like a Ford ZETEC engine to me.

I love that screen saver. Deutz is an engine manufacture you can check you their website if you want, but that screen saver has been around for years and I don't think the motor will be on their website.

But Deutz doesn't build any petrol engines (which this one is with sparkplugs, etc).

I thought it was quite odd that they show the fuel injection occurs before intake valve opens. This couldn't be a very efficient way to do it..? Fuel would puddle on the valves rather than atomize into the air.

I can't put my name on exactly which engine it looks like.... Looks to be a '96 or newer design because of the various sensors..

Remember how many cars of the 80s and early 90s were batch fire? They worked OK. What about carb'd cars, they are spraying fuel at all times. The injection event usually takes longer than the intake valve being open anyways even on sequential injection setups. The fuel will vaporize on the back of the hot valve and help keep it cool.

You mean, 'laser beam of fuel'?

I showed my dad.. he stated similar to the theory about cooling the valve.. only he said it more like 'heating up the fuel for quicker evaporation'..

The cooling of the valve is just a side benefit of the compromise that arises from the fact that the injection event usually takes way longer than the intake valve duration. Obviously, you'd like to inject all of the fuel into the port when the intake air velocity is the highest, and this works ok at very low pulsewidths (think of the 'end of injection' options/tables in many EMS systems and its effect on idle/low speed operation while there is minimal effect at higher RPMs/loads).

I wonder how many other screen savers have sparked technical discussions :D

Lots of aftermarket EMS still only support batch fire, or even worse full group!

Very nice anim, someone has spent a lot of time on that - i like the way even the bolts rotate. :D

There are some nice Honda tech videos over here, with some pretty slick animation (and very informative as well):

The rod is made in one piece, then the big end is cracked open to seperate the cap.

Thread back from the dead I know, but I had this screen saver on my PC when this topic was current & loved it.

Now I use a Mac & wanted to carry it over. Is there any way to get this file to work? I am still new to Macs, and cant figure out how to get it to go.
