Ok guys, I had a couple of Generic 26C256 EPROM, but they're all used now.
I'm about to go shopping and buy some zif sockets and xxPROM.

Now, which xxPROM should I buy ? Which onw do you reccomend.
Personally I'd like to use either EEPROM or FLASH, since EPROM are more fragile...

I'm not sure if flash are electrically compatible.

I've personally used ATMEL 27C256 OTP ROMs, National Semiconductor 27C256 EPROMS w/ UV window.

EEPROMs will probably work too...

be really careful when buying ZIF sockets.
There is not a lot of space on the PCB for the extra space of a ZIF. The ones I use you can get from digikey for ~$6.50. They just BARELY fit and they are low profile ZIFs...

[%sig%]

I use the at29c256. The at28C256 doesn't work. Don't know about the 26c256 tho.

That's cool that the 29C256 works, because they're cheaper than the 28C anyway, I'll have to try those... I agree about those Digikey ZIF sockets, those kick ass for the price and they actually fit in the footprint in Honda ECUs without touching anything...

what speed do you guys use? I have been chipping alot of ecus lately and am out of 27c256s. I was gonna get a bunch more, but dont want some that are too slow or too fast. Does it matter? I can't afford to drop the $$ on 29s all the time. How much do you guys get them for? I really don't see paying more than .50 for 27s, and $5 for 29s.

What's the digikey part number for the zif socket? I've had some low profiles laying around and put one to use the other night when a buddy brought over his pm6 and a chip. http://www.wolfenet.org/gallery/ecu you can see the socket here.
