trying to find out if its possible to disable the knock sensor circuit on a JDM P5M ecu :?:
i know you can do it on JDM P13 but can it be done on a JDM P5M

in what fashion exactly? meaning, do you have any tuning software or a means of interfacing with the internal rom of the ecu?

i just want to disable the knock senor circuit as in i do not want the ecu to look for one or expect a signal from one.
i want it to be like a the UK one as the uk preludes do not have knock sensors, but i want the JDM mapping.
also would it be possible to transplant the JDM chip into a UK P5M.

the only way i know of disabling the knock sensor (or having the computer not look for it) is to edit the ecu programming itself. sorry i cant be more help here, I know this isn't the answer you wanted. I dont think theres a practical way of "tricking" the ecu into not looking for a knock signal as it's integral to the way in which the ecu controls timing. perhaps consider swapping to the uk ecu, with some homework and a few tries on egay you're sure to find a compatible ecu. or just go all out and chip a p28 or 72 and write a nice rom while you're at it. the chipping kits and software are becoming quite affordable and the tech resources here on pgmfi are bountiful.

as for "swapping the chip", you'd likely run into an issue with the checksum routine amongst other things. it's doubtful that the ecu would recognize the mapping. someone else please chime in here if I'm way off but i think not

surely if you can remove the knock sensor board from a JDM P13 without any issues as described on this site and not have any problems by simply moving a couple of resisters.
then if you identify the correct resisters in a JDM P5P you can do the same!
i believe i have identified the knock circuit it is marked as HIC4 on the circuit board.
tried to attach image i have but says the attachment is too large.
and as for using a P28 or P72 its not a option my vehicle is a automatic and they cannot supply all the data my TCU requires.
please dont say convert to manual as i dont want to i like my auto.

unless you can tell me a way of conecting TCU pin B18 "SEAF and B19 SEFA then i could run a P13 and remove the knock board from that.

if you can get photos to work and are good with a multimeter, and patient. i may be able to sort of offer help in identifying it

the main differences i can see are the knockless has components in J15 / J16 and R173,
C1 capacitor is missing
R195 is missing
HIC4 is missing
C14 is bridged instead of having a component in it.

you pretty much got it. never had a p5m apart, man theyre identical. I would remove the knock chip, add a jumper on j15 and j16 (i like to use an old leg of a resistor or LED) , measure the resistance of R268 and put the matching value resistor on R173, remove C1 and R195

c14 on yours looks like a jumper already, hence the 0 on what looks like the resistor there. if youre worried about it remove whats there and put your own jumper in

hey actually r173 needs to be a 10k ohm resistor, i looked at that wrong

edit: oops guess i actually did write to check resistance
