I chipped a P07-A00 ECU which ran fine on my SIM so I installed it on my Del Sol to test. It starts up and idles fine but I noticed the CE light does not come on and off as usual (it just stays off) and it "seems" it does not stop priming the fuel pump but I'm not sure.

Anyway, I left it idling and started to hear a squeeling sound coming from the a/c compressor and then the compressor started to smoke. I removed the P07 and put in a regular chipped OBD1 ECU and the noise and smoke go away.

Can someone explain how the P07 ECU interacts with the a/c compressor?

P07 - A13 --> light --> fuse 15
P0_ - A13 --> light --> fuse 15
same pathway for VX and others. No idea why it wouldn't work.
Do you have a standard light or LED in the cluster?
When I went to a LED I had to use a loading resistor to get the light to work properly. I've noticed some ECUs are more sensitive to this than others, and some work without the load resistor.

B8 - Power Steering switch input
what it does with that info, I have no idea.
it's a ground active signal to indicate pressure in the line at the rack. (or maybe too much pressure, the manual is unclear)
note: VX's didn't come with power steering very often, the input may not populated.

not sure if that's any help, but it's info. :)

Relic1,
Input PSP SW have same function as A/C control: Input : small increase idle speed.

When A/C is on :arrow: idle RPM Up to compensate the load of the compressor.
When PSP pressure high :arrow: idle RPM up to compensate the load of the pump.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will check the ECU in another car to see if the CE light behavs the same. As far as the P/S input, does this pin go to a valid position on a P28 ECU?

You don't need to use the PSP SW signal because it is not very useful. It is for this reason that does not exist on the europe ecu version.

Ok, it wasn't the power steering pump that was smoking, it was the A/C compressor and this has been documented as an issue when you chip a P07-1560 here:

viewtopic.php?f=45&t=16869&hilit=p07&start=90

--> final post on that page by RHD-Joe

The other issue has to do with the CE light not behaving normally and the fuel pump prime cycle not ending (continuous priming) here:

viewtopic.php?f=45&t=16869&hilit=p07&start=105

--> middle of the page by scanikwwo

If anyone has solved these issue, please post here. Otherwise, I'll assume the 1560's don't work as "transparently" as the other chippable OBD1 ECUs.

Well it seems these 2 issues will never be resolved. If anyone wants the P07's make me a reasonable offer. Otherwise they are going on Ebay...
