I chipped 2 of my P28 ECU's recently and its been awhile since i've done them. I must be missing something or just flat out doing it wrong. Let me start off by saying the ECU's are in perfect condition. OK so I soldered in new main capacitor, the 2 decoupling capacitors, the resistor, and j-1 jumper along with the small chip, and 28 pin socket (all in correct places). I start the car using crome free, and it won't rev past 4k? I've had this problem before and it was because a leg was bend on my basemap chip.. I know and have double checked nothing is bent and every leg is connected perfect, and i reburnt the chip again to stock jdm b16 map, still nothing.

I have also gone and double checked all my solder joints with a white light, all of them are kissed up nicely and i've checked every one for any play, which none at all was found in any joint. Both ECU's have been checked and they run the same. I am stumped. Never had this problem before and am tearing my hair out, if someone has had this problem or knows what might cause this problem any info would be great. Im at a dead end because I see nothing wrong, but like I said its been awhile.

I was thinking maybe I burnt the copper somewhere, or a problem in crome free. I have crome 1.6.4 running on windows 7 64bit on my laptop btw, and even tried running crome in XPS-2 compatibility mode. I might just have to pull everything out and leave them stock, I feel I ruined something somehow. Anyways any input would be great, thanks.

Did you remove checksum and add quick datalogger+rtp in the bin in crome.

Dam* thats good thinking.. I think I did, but when are you supposed to add it? I built a gsr map from a p30 code, and after I rescaled the scalors I think I added them from habit, but maybe I should give it another try. If I think back though I am pretty sure I remember maybe adding it somewhere in there.. But i'll run it again and maybe thats it, thanks for that reminder!

Any other ideas in the mean time to try while I troubleshoot later today?

Thanks sicknastyb17!

Also didnt see where you posted what programmer you are using. If you are not using a moates and are not using cromes built in flash and burn interface remember to set your offset when using a 512 eprom

Ok I will try it tomorrow and see what happens, I've been backed up with cars all day and haven't had a chance to mess with anything.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention I'm running:

-moats burn2
-Crome free 1.6.4
-burning through Crome program using grab/burn features

SETTINGS:

-REAL TIME PROGRAMMING;

Moats Devices

Port: com5
Baud: 115200
Data Bits: 8
Parity: none
Stop Bits: 1

Timeout: 250
Max Tries: 3

Thank you!

Update!

I tried:

1. Remove checksum
2. Data logging plus rpt

Still same problem, then tried

3. p-30 byte hack also

Can someone explain what the byte hack is even used for?

And eny other suggestions besides I ruined ecu? Lol

obd0 and obd1 Honda binary files are 32kb. A 256 eprom can only hold 32kb. A 512 (double the size of a 256) holds 64kb. The eprom is going to give the ecu the frist 32kb of information unless the the correct pin is grounded to read the second half of the 64kb file. So when you use a 512 you must set the offset at 08000. This is half or 32kb of the total amount of space of a 512 eprom. If you fail to set the offset on a 512 eprom and try to start the car you will see it runs in limp mode.

Yes runs fine with open j-1.

So just to double check, what would my offset be with what I am using?

Do I leave the settings alone or what would I change? Ecu still running in limp mode.. My settings and offset are most likely wrong so if someone has the right settings please let me know this is some stress I tell you what.. Lol!

for sure you run fine with remove j1 bcoz it was running in stock mode...

agree to bro sicknastyb17, what IC/eprom did you use? 256 or 512 size? if you use 512, offset setting required which is start from 08000..
what about 74HC373 IC?
