Thanks jim...Can you also take a few pictures of the whole thing instead just the end piece...I'd like to see what the complete kit looked like...I found USB connectors from my computer...maybe I can split the wires and it instead of getting the Nokia? Wonder if that will work...basically it's just a connector with 5 colored wires at one end...and the other end is the USB.

Anyone ever try this cable?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 4122454405

I have one sitting around. It looks pretty similar to the Ebay one above, but the wires to the phone are blue white and green. (could the green just be the same as the black?) how can i tell which is the rx and which is the tx lead? Can someone help me out? I can get some pictures up if that would help. Thanks.

Get your voltmeter out and measure the voltages.
If the TTL part works somewhat like the MAX232 and simliar, this should apply:
--The RX is likely to be around 2.5 volts. When you fiddle with it, you should see strange characters on the terminal screen.
--The TX will likely be close to 5 volts, and the average voltage will drop when you send data from the PC.

And of course if you put the two together, whatever you type on the terminal should be echo´ed back.

With the ebay cable posted above I wouldnt have to buy the "Prolific PL-2303" converter guy, right? Its already in the cable, right? All Id have to do is what jim said at the top, right?

I am a hardware retard. Oh well. I am determined to finally get this whole data logging thing going.

Ben :)

I can only confirm that the two cables I posted above contain the PL-2303. It is housed in the small box in the middle of the cable. If you find one of the cables I used, you can follow my post step-by-step for installation. If your cable is different, you may need to trace the wires to correct the TTL RX and TX lines.

For anyone considering Uberdata these cables are 100% compatible for datalogging in version 1.6666. The Radioshack cable is the one I sent Blake for the initial development.

the usb driver is in a zip in this directory if people need it. this is my own personal server on my dsl line, so keep traffic to a minimum if possible, and please lets mirror it somewhere.

Also, I've posted this in the Wiki
